UK award for "Fairytale"
Eliksir was nominated
in two categories for the Exposure Music Awards 2008
- the single cut of "Harbour Song" (Best International)
and the song & video "Fairytale" from
the album Earthly Things (Best Video). Eliksir won the
latter, and was in the Midlands on May 31 to receive
the price. The Exposure Music Awards give attention
to talented and upcoming artists and bands. A VJ has
included "Fairytale" on his weekly video show
at SKY 186 (Ditto Music Live - Birmingham). The
video is directed by Harald Sandø.
Eliksir June concert
Eliksir & the band
gave a fantastic concert at Dattera til Hagen in Oslo
June 12 in front of an unusually enthusiastic audience.
Elin is somewhat of a storyteller and in a concert situation
it comes naturally to share of her experiences. "I
feel thankful having been given the ability and opportunity
to express so much through my words and music." With
her on stage were: Trygve Tambs-Lyche (drums), Glenn-Phillip
Nilsen (bass), Haldor Røyne (guitar) and Erik Sortdal
(keys). (Photo by Astrid Lunke)
Doctorate on Eliksir
Elin Synnøve Bråthen
(Eliksir) has just accepted an offer from the University
of Agder to do research for a doctorate degree on
band communication (metaphors on music). For the research
she will monitor the verbal acts within the band during
the process of recording the next Eliksir album. The research
project raises the question: how do you give words to
something that no existing words cover fully? "When
we negotiate musical solutions within the band we seldomly
use technical terms from our music education, rather we
tend to apply imagery and metaphors - words that really
do not have anything to do with music, but that may help
us get the meaning across." The research and thesis
will be worked on for 3 years.
Release in
Asia
Eliksir met
Hong Kong label Silk Road Music Ltd at the trade MIDEM
in Cannes, and they have agreed to do a licensed release
of the album "Earthly Things" in 2008. The album
will be distributed to most countries of Southeast Asia.
The song "Fairytale" has already featured on
a sampler with the Hong Kong label (a serial of releases
called "Simply
the Finest"). For the Asian version of the album
Eliksir has recorded a bonus track in Mandarin with producer
Øystein Sevåg, the Chinese folk song "Red
Bean Song". To cope with the Mandarin pronounciation
Eliksir had to bring in Elise Chen as her personal language
coach. Eliksir hopes to visit Asia for the launch of the
album.
Promotion
in the Netherlands
The music of Eliksir is
receiving airplay in a number of places - from the commercial
networks in Norway to rather eccentric shows around Europe
and in the USA. One of Eliksir's new focus areas is the
Netherlands. Radio edits of the tracks "At the Station"
and "Harbour Song" are currently fronting a
round of promotion for the album there. She is collaborating
with IEP (Independent Entertainment Promotions), situated
in Hilversum.
